Supporting the transition from landfill-centric approaches to innovative resource recovery.

Era assisted Southern Waste Solutions with planning and environmental approvals for the redevelopment of the Lutana Waste Transfer Station (WTS). The existing WTS accepts commercial waste from across Tasmania, and sees this waste sorted and transferred to the Copping Landfill.

This project aims to accommodate resource recovery at the Lutana WTS. This will allow more extensive recycling capabilities, and result in higher diversion of waste products from landfill. Once operational, the Lutana Resource Recovery Centre will facilitate the reuse of up to 90,000 tonnes of commercial and industrial waste per year.

Project Highlights

  • Obtained planning approvals for the stage 1 redevelopment, leading engagement with Council and regulators.

  • Preparing the Environmental Effects Report and planning application for the next stage, which involves both EPA and Council assessment.

  • Providing ongoing advice and support in implementing existing approvals.

  • The site’s increased resource recovery capability will see the recycling of thousands of tonnes of plastic, building materials and commercial waste, and significantly reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill.

Let’s build legacy together.
