Providing for better planning outcomes through the state planning provisions.

Tasmania is facing growing pressures on its housing system, driven by population growth, shifting demographics, and changes in lifestyle preferences. Era was engaged by the State Planning Office to provide technical research and policy guidance as part of a comprehensive review of the State Planning Provisions to improve the standards governing residential development.

Era undertook transparent and thorough community engagement, to best understand and address community concerns around liveability, equity and sustainability, while facilitating a more diverse and affordable housing supply. It built upon a strong foundation of statewide consultation and technical analysis, acknowledging the need to modernise Tasmania’s planning framework to support high-quality urban environments.

The resulting recommendations will inform future amendments to the State Planning Provisions, ensuring residential development better meets the needs of current and future Tasmanians.
