Breathing new life into a vacant site by repurposing what came before.

Era was engaged to provide planning services to assist with the refurbishment of existing buildings at the former Mary’s Grange nursing home site in Taroona, Tasmania. Our services have included preliminary planning advice, preparation of a planning permit application and giving expert planning evidence in TASCAT.

The project aims to revitalise the site, which has been vacant since 2021, utilising existing built form with modifications and significant landscaping improvements. The project will deliver 16 new apartments and minimise the environmental impacts of providing new houses due to reuse of the embedded carbon in existing built form.

The site will also feature a garage and extensive car parking, a gym and recreation area, and a courtyard area equipped with a barbeque and outdoor dining space.

Project Highlights

  • Supported approvals for the reuse of existing built fabric for infill housing.

  • Provided expert planning evidence in a planning appeal.

  • Development is set to revitalise a currently vacant site and minimise environmental impacts by repurposing parts of the existing built form.

Let’s build legacy together.
