Planning permit application

Making big change from small change with Tasmania’s first recycling rewards scheme.

Era provided planning advice and support for the development of a new network of container refund points across Tasmania. These refund points have been introduced to reduce litter, by facilitating the collection of beverage containers in exchange for a 10-cent refund as part of the Tasmanian Government’s ‘Recycle Rewards’ scheme.

Working with new statewide planning provisions, Era obtained exemptions or planning permits across all 29 councils in Tasmania, navigating different regulatory approaches across planning authorities.

The project’s rollout is currently underway, with a total of 49 refund points being constructed across the state.

Project Highlights

  • Supported regulatory approvals for the rollout of a new recycling scheme across Tasmania.

  • Used local knowledge and connections to navigate requirements of 29 different planning authorities.

  • With 30 million containers recycled in the first 4 months, the scheme’s success contributes to improved recycling and new economic opportunities around the state.

Let’s build legacy together.
